Description
Il Meleto (“apple orchard”) is a 19th century villa that was the summer residence of the poet Guido Gozzano (1883-1916), located at the foot of the Macugnano hill one kilometer from Agliè.
If you walk from Castello Square (Piazza Castello), pass Principe Tommaso Street (Via Principe Tommaso) and Principe Amedeo Street (Via Principe Amedeo), which will lead you out of town, then turn right and take Meleto Street (Via Meleto).
Its current structure is the result of the restoration which took place in 1904, commissioned by the poet - who loved the French Art Nouveau style. You can also visit the small garden and the entrance alley, lined with apple trees (hence the name of the residence).
Villa Meleto´s “Casotto”
casottoIl casotto is a little wooden hut near a small lake and the Villa Meleto. Guido Gozzano used this place to relax, write and to take loving care of his butterflies. Although the hut has fallen into disrepair and urgent works of restoration are needed, the atmosphere that surrounds this place is still poetic, reminding us of the poets´ works.
