Description
San Rocco ChurchIt was built by Agliè´s inhabitants in the first half of the 17th century, when the plague ended.
It is consecrated to Saint San Rocco because three centuries ago, he dedicated his life to curing the ill and then later died having contracted the illness. In 1931 it was demolished and the only items that remain from the old building, rebuilt nearby, are the central icon, the wooden statue of the saint and the steeple´s clock.
The current building, with its trussed ceiling, imitates the new-romantic style.
Inside the church, to the sides of the central icon representing Virgin Mary, St. John the Baptist, St. Rocco and St. Sebastian, we find two frescos by L. Perrone, representing St. Joseph on the left and St. Gaetano on the right. The walls have been recently repainted by Gilardi, whose original perspective gave a fresh new look to this small church.
