Description
San GratoThe original chapel dates back to the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century. Its structure has been changed several times over the years; the fa?ade, for istance, dates back to the 18th century while the steeple, built in the corner of the building above the ancient chapel, was erected in the 19th century. The original chapel, incorporated in the following enlargements, is still partly visibile in the lateral side of the current church, which looks onto the street. Its frames prove that the south fa?ade was once the main one.
Nowadays the church faces east, has two naves and includes the sacristy and the chaplain´s house.
The interior is completely decorated with frescos. Noteworthy is the elegant baroque altar, built were the ancient chapel once stood. The altar piece, recentely restored, represents the saint to whom the church is dedicated. Its relics, belonging to the old structure, are still kept under the altar.
